Three public records trace a consistent interest in how physical models reveal fluid behaviour that calculations alone may not capture.

A Georgia Tech hydraulic-model report credits Salik Javaid with collecting model data for high- and low-pressure pump-intake structures for the City of Montreal. The university repository separately records his 1994 doctoral dissertation on pressure distribution around a circular cylinder in oscillatory flow.

In 2020, Javaid and Muhammad Zeshan Khalil published an open-access chapter examining geometric, kinematic and dynamic similarity, Pakistan’s Nandipur Hydraulic Research Station, and the continuing role of physical model studies alongside numerical simulation.

Land-use change in the Simly Lake catchment

A four-author study examined how development and land-cover change affected runoff and sediment conditions in a major Islamabad water-supply catchment.

The paper lists Muhammad Shahid, Hamza Farooq Gabriel, Amjad Nabi and Muhammad Salik Javaid as authors. It used rainfall, runoff and sediment records; Landsat imagery from 1992, 2000 and 2010; a digital elevation model; and double-mass curves.

The reported comparison found substantial reductions in forest, water-body and vegetation shares alongside increases in built-up and bare land. The authors linked those changes to greater runoff and sedimentation and recommended tighter control of development activity in the catchment.

The published study addressed technical, economic and political dimensions of the proposed dam without reducing the subject to a single engineering calculation.

Muhammad Salik Javaid is listed with Muhammad Israr Khan, S. Muhammad Jamil, Liaqat Ali and Kamran Akhtar. The work used slope-stability software, satellite imagery and upstream contour mapping to examine the site and backwater context, alongside a review of economic and inter-provincial policy questions.

From earthquake reconstruction to flood resilience

Institutional records place Javaid’s water and infrastructure work within the wider problem of national resilience.

His IntechOpen biography records service as Director General Planning for Pakistan’s Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority and later work as a disaster-risk reduction consultant with the United Nations Development Programme.

In October 2025, Abasyn University documented his participation in the Pakistan Engineering Council’s high-level roundtable on Flood Resilience Strategy, convened to support a national framework for proactive flood management.

Engineering resilience is presented here as a continuous professional theme, not as a claim that one participant authored an entire programme.
